LINKS TO ALL BANDS BELOW THESE GREAT BLURBS.
Standard Fare: 8pm
“Immediately on Cakeshop’s top 20 of all time. Sheffield UK’s Standard Fare, sure it’s pop, but more in the Boston early 80′s style, think hazy strolling fenders in the Lemonheads/Blake Babies tradition, throw in a little 11th Dream Day/Love Child, Emma and Danny’s yearning vocals are some of the most touching I think I’ve ever heard. Every song so effortlessly & every song has a hook you look forward to each time you hit replay. This is all high puffery, I know, but if you’re on board with these comparisons, you’re on board with Standard Fare forever.
–Andy Bodor, Cakeshop
“If you love Kenickie, The Long Blondes, The Siddeleys or Girls At Our Best you will fall instantly in love with Standard Fare.”
– Rough Trade
“There’s a little buzz about this band Standard Fare. That is totally justified entirely as their debut single ‘Fifteen’ recalls classic, sprinting C86 shamble ‘n’ jangle indie, spilling with spirit & gusto.”
– Norman Records
Reading Rainbow: 9pm
“Reading Rainbow further that lo-fi/girl group inspired garage that has made blogosphere darlings out of Vivian Girls and Dum Dum Girls. But where those two acts keep their emotions in check with monotone harmonies, this duo raise their spirits up to a level that recalls the unbridled emotion of Love Is All, most notably on “Feral Kids.”"
– Exclaim.ca
Summer Cats (slumberland): 10pm
“Summer Cats are an almost quintessentially Slumberland-sounding band: sunny male/female vocals, jangly guitars that sometimes get very very noisy, and vintage organ.”
– BrooklynVegan
“Summer Cats play upbeat pop songs in a Stereolab-meets-Go-Betweens style, replete with distorted keyboards, feedback guitars, and hook-laden basslines, all accompanied by Scott Stephens’ distinctive vocals.” — Insound
Frankie Rose and The Outs (slumberland) : 11pm
“Now she’s on her own with Frankie Rose and the Outs and we’re already in love. Think ‘60s girl group-meets-neo-psychedelia, with breathy harmonies that soar at just the right moment.” — Nylon Magazine
Grass Widow: 12am
“The eponymous album is an addictive listen and just as good as the live show, retaining their cross of spritely pop chops and multilayered post-punk instrumentation.”
– Tom Tom Magazine
-New 12″ on CapeShok, Cakeshop’s house label, split with Captured Tracks
Pains of Being Pure At Heart (slumberland): 1AM
You should all know the ‘Pains by now..!! The pop world’s greatest hope and challenger right now. Tonite, they come ‘back’ to environs similar to Cakeshop, nice and packed and sweaty and electrified, Cakeshop being the proud home to ‘Pains’s first shows.
